Occupational Therapy (OT) treats the physical, mental, developmental and emotional ailments impacting a patient’s ability to perform day-to-day tasks-including the activities of daily living (ADLs).
ADLs can include, but aren’t limited to:
- Bathing
- Cooking
- Grooming
- Household cleaning
- Using the restroom
- and More
OT will also make recommendations if you need equipment to aid in performing ADLs safely (e.g., shower benches, toilet risers, bed rails, etc.).
Some situations where OT can be helpful can include:
- Generalized weakness
- Rehabilitation (neurological, post-injury or post-surgical)
- Manufacturing and modifying splints
- Showering/toileting education
- Pain assessment
